Live Green and Make a Green Living

At Myriad Greeyn we understand the green life and how hard it may seem to go green and make changes to a busy lifestyle in order to make way for green living and the discipline it involves. In reality though, all it really takes to live green is a little knowledge, a little awareness and a few little green living changes that can make all the difference in the world. And along the path to going green you will surely find out how going green saves you money like you never thought possible.

Going Green or Blue

Some small green changes that make a big difference when going green are as simple as turning off the faucet when brushing your teeth or shaving, using a broom to sweep your driveway instead of the water hose, or buying a dish squeegee to scrape off food instead of rinsing dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. And did you know that anti-bacterial soaps have almost no health benefits to you over non-anti-bacterial soaps; in fact, they can be more harmful to everyone by going down the drain and eventually ending up back in the environment where they contribute to bacteria evolving into resistant strains immune to treatment that could cause vast pandemics.

The Green Life likes Less Meat

Eating less meat throughout your green life saves tons of water. Few people realize that it takes between 2,500 and 5,000 gallons of water per pound of beef to raise a cow up until slaughter, per pound, not per cow. Then there's the pollution and deforestation that comes from ranching, as land use change is one of the biggest contributors to climate change and global warming, and ranching in South America for North America's meat addiction has accounted for the destruction of over 1/5th of the Amazon, killing green life and sending thousands of species into extinction.

Green Living Requires Recycling

And how easy is it to recycle? It's pretty difficult until you try. Try making it fun by checking surrounding state, county and city rates of pay for certain items so you maximize your return. You may find that they all pay differently, and some pay very well, enough to make a decent green living. What about just putting food waste in a separate container and using it to mulch your garden. If you don't have a garden, that's a good reason to start one, or plant some shrubs, a dogwood, some perennials; sequester some of your carbon and send less bagged waste to the landfill at the same time. And stay away from non-organic fertilizers that pollute the water table, rivers, lakes, bays and oceans with harmful phosphorous and nitrogen that deprives water of oxygen, killing every breathing organism in the water.

Live Green Energy Neutral

What about saving energy? Change out those light bulbs to LEDs or CFLs and save a ton of money in the long run. Most power companies give you an option to live green and have your electricity generated from a renewable energy source for around two extra cents per KWh, which makes an enormous difference. Power factor correction devices can be extremely helpful and inexpensive, especially in larger homes with many inductive motors, like a pool and multiple heating/cooling units. Then of course there's solar, wind, geothermal and other renewable energy sources you can personally affix to your home so you can really live green, super green.

Go Green on Your Bike and Lose Weight

Few things pollute like traveling, especially in vehicles. The simplest solution is to get a car that gets great gas mileage or go green buying electric, but the best is to just ride your bike, and it's good for you. Remember how much fun it was to ride a bike when you were a kid, that feeling of freedom as the wind rushed through your hair? If you don't, try it out, it's great, and great for the environment, your body, and your soul. Go green with a pair of pedals.

See, it's not so hard to live a green life
